Introduction
A financial planning firm was looking for an investment partner, and they showed interest in Binary Capital. They wanted a partner who could create a range of model portfolios specifically designed to match their brand identity, including their company name, color scheme, and unique investment constraints
What the adviser was looking for:
Investment Preferences
- Attending investment committee
- A bespoke solution - designed around the IFAs investment philosophy
- Consumer duty aligned
- Preference to keep cost low, reducing OCF of funds.
- IFA wanted the solution to include investment trusts, which were built into the model through ongoing discussions around the allocations.
Marketing Preferences
- Branded Factsheets - colour coordinated with branding as if own models.
- IFA wanted bespoke brochures designed for his clients, retail friendly.
Service preferences
- IFA wanted the name of portfolio to be their own on their platform of choice. Reasoning, the IFA when creating reports wanted their firm name to appear instead of the DFM.
- Quarterly seminars discussing markets.
- IFA wanted a designated sales manager so they could attend meetings and receive ongoing updates. Provide support daily if necessary.
The Process
The IFA firm and Binary Capital had initial discussions to align their visions.
They sought to understand the IFA firm’s investment ethos, client offerings, and objectives.
The IFA firm’s interest in integrating Investment Trusts was noteworthy because of the value they can offer clients.
Cost-efficiency was also a priority, with a cost cap of 0.75% proposed, which led Binary Capital proposing the use of index funds to reduce fees. Binary Capital agreed an annual management charge of 0.20%; a market leading charge for fully bespoke, white-labelled portfolios.
To continue the collaboration, Binary Capital appointed a dedicated account manager to the IFA firm. This person acted as the main point of contact, they ensured smooth communication between the investment team and the IFA firm, promoting transparency and alignment.
Binary Capital sent across a comprehensive proposal, and a sample marketing brochure for discussion.
The proposition was agreed and Binary Capital uploaded the model portfolios on to the IFA firm’s platforms of choice.
The Outcome
An IFA firm was looking for more than just a transactional relationship with their partners. Instead, they wanted to establish a substantive partnership that would improve client relationships through a collaborative approach, rather than relying on a sales-driven model. Binary Capital shared this vision and aimed to be more than just a service provider, but a reliable partner committed to mutual success. A genuine long-term collaboration.
Investment preferences
- Binary Capital values the importance of aligning their unique investment philosophy with that of the IFA. The IFA firm takes an active role in investment committee meetings to ensure that the investment solutions are maintained to meet the IFA’s preferences.
- Moreover, Binary Capital demonstrated commitment to consumer duty by creating a solution that meets the IFA’s investment constraints whilst also aligning fully with end-client outcomes. In addition, we recognised that the IFA requests cost efficiency, which is why Binary Capital focuses on strictly maintaining ongoing charges of the portfolio within the 0.75% total cost cap. We achieve this by carefully selecting and monitoring investments to keep costs low.
- Lastly, in response to the IFA’s desire to include investment trusts, Binary Capital engages in ongoing discussions about allocations of that product class to ensure that these assets are integrated effectively into the partnership portfolios.
Marketing Preferences
- Binary Capital produces branded monthly factsheets that are colour coordinated with the IFA’s brand, giving the impression that they are the IFA’s own models.
- To meet the IFA’s request for bespoke brochures tailored for their clients, Binary Capital designed retail-friendly documents that showcase the unique value proposition of the strategies. The process integrated feedback that we received.
Service Preferences
- Binary Capital acknowledges and respects the Independent Financial Advisor’s (IFA) preference for branding their portfolio with their own name on their chosen platform. This allows the IFA’s firm name to appear on reports, reinforcing their branding with client relationships.
- To ensure ongoing communication, Binary Capital provides a dedicated account manager who attends meetings and provides regular updates to keep the IFA informed and supported.
- Quarterly seminars discussing market trends are organised to keep the IFA and their clients informed about developments that could impact their investments.
