Established in 2018, Binary Capital emerged from a collective vision shared by industry experts who cultivated enduring relationships within wholesale financial services over decades.

Recognising the need for enhanced market returns alongside meaningful business-to-business partnerships, our founders embarked on a mission to improve the financial well-being of retail clients across the UK, through serving independent financial advisers (IFAs) that share our patient capital approach to investing.

From off-the-shelf model portfolio solutions to partnership arrangements, our dedicated team works together with IFAs of all sizes to deliver investment solutions meticulously tailored to meet a diverse range of client outcomes.

Specialising in multi-asset, risk-managed, Managed Portfolio Services (MPS) designed for long-term investment, Binary Capital offers solutions that transcend the active-passive debate.

We serve advisers seeking to address gaps in their investment propositions. Our forward-thinking approach prioritises client outcomes, recognising that while past performance provides valuable insights, it’s our future-focused strategies that drive success.

John Ruskin

Chairman

John is an accomplished CEO with over 25 years of international leadership experience, having built and sold two self-funded businesses to large, listed companies, and run two major divisions of world-leading enterprises.

He co-founded, built, and sold Cube Financial Group (1997 – 2006), the world’s first independent brokerage agency, which grew to £120M revenues and >100 employees in UK and US. Acquired by Société Générale’s Fimat (Newedge). Further to this he led Newedge’s Futures, Options, Equities & Fixed Income business (2006 – 2013), maintaining stable trajectory throughout the financial crisis, and growing the business to €200M revenues and 550 salespeople in eight markets.

John then co-founded, grew and sold Coex Partners Group (2014 – 2018), growing to £11M revenues in three years with an international client base of hedge funds and asset managers in UK, France, and US. Acquired by TP ICAP.

After his exit from Coex Partners he headed Agency Execution for TP ICAP (2018 – 2022), one of four divisions of the world’s largest Interdealer Broker, leading organic and acquisitive growth to increase revenues from £30M to £320M in four years. John also directed integration and strategic refocus of Liquidnet into TP ICAP (2021 – 2022), as a key member of the leadership team that closed $600M acquisition of Liquidnet in 2021 embedding a new vision, strategy, and roadmap for the business to ensure sustainable growth.

John is hugely passionate about social mobility, having worked with schools, community centres, social enterprise clubs, and the Metropolitan Police on multiple initiatives, and mentored young people through BTEC and A levels. He is a family magistrate.

Lee Hughes

Non-Executive Director

After a successful career in derivatives trading, Lee co-founded Cube Financial, an institutional sales business with offices in London and Chicago. Cube Financial was acquired by Societe Generale in 2010.

Following the acquisition, Lee became a founding partner at Coex Partners, where he remained until the firm was sold to TP ICAP in 2018. Throughout his career, Lee has held multiple Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) control functions, ranging from significant management to compliance.

Saftar Sarwar

Chief Investment Officer

Saftar is the Chief Investment Officer of Binary Capital, with around 30 years of investment experience across equity markets and absolute return strategies. He began his career in Edinburgh and spent many years as an institutional investment professional.

As CIO, Saftar oversees Binary Capital’s investment philosophy and is central to the development and governance of the firm’s proposition. He is a regular speaker at adviser events and training sessions across the UK and plays an important role in supporting client service. His deep knowledge of the investment proposition is invaluable across client mandates, underpinned by his expertise in macroeconomic analysis.

He holds an Honours degree in Economics and a postgraduate diploma in accounting. Saftar is IMC qualified and holds the CISI Private Client Investment Advice and Management (PCIAM) qualification, passed with Merit. He is a member of the CFA Institute UK and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Saftar has a highly consistent, award-winning investment performance record across multiple market environments and is a regular conference speaker. Beyond his professional role, he is actively involved in charitable work and mentoring.

Sarb Thind

Head of Sales (UK)

Sarb is a senior investment sales professional with over a decade of experience supporting financial advisers. His career includes roles at AXA, Architas, Invesco, and PortfolioMetrix. He joined Binary Capital in 2024 as Head of Sales.

In his role, Sarb leads the distribution of Binary Capital’s outsourced MPS range, with a strong focus on building the firm’s Partnership Portfolio proposition. He works closely with adviser firms to develop personalised Centralised Investment Propositions (CIPs) and to support the wider adviser ecosystem.

Sarb holds a BA in Criminology from Coventry University, the CISI Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma, and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Outside of work, Sarb enjoys spending time with his family and his Pomeranian, Rex, playing sports, and exploring ancient history.

Amir Miah

Portfolio Manager

Amir is a Portfolio Manager at Binary Capital, overseeing all investment decisions and leading the investment team. He also supports client service through regular adviser training sessions across the UK. Amir has been with the business since its inception in 2018.

He holds a BSc in Accounting, Financial and Management and an MSc in Finance and Investment from the University of Nottingham. Amir is Level 7 RDR qualified, having completed the Chartered Wealth Management Qualification, and has been recognised as a Citywire Wealth Manager 30 under 30.

Alongside his professional role, Amir is Chairman of Global Generation, where he is a strong advocate for social mobility and supporting disadvantaged young people.

Outside of work, Amir enjoys cycling, cooking for family and friends, exploring the outdoors, and staying closely engaged with investment markets.

Sam Boughton

Client Service Director

Sam has been with Binary Capital since its inception in 2018, joining initially in a sales support role before progressing to Client Service Director.

In his current role, Sam leads the firm’s client service and sales function, supporting asset growth across the business while strengthening operational capability. His progression reflects a deep understanding of Binary Capital and a strong commitment to delivering an excellent client experience.

Sam holds an honours degree in Economics.

He strongly aligns with Binary Capital’s philosophy, which is built on long-term client relationships and meaningful outcomes. As Sam notes, “By prioritising trusted relationships and delivering consistent results, we aim to build a sustainable business for the long term.”

Outside of work, Sam is a keen supporter of Arsenal and regularly attends matches at the Emirates Stadium. He is also an accomplished sportsman, having completed triathlons and competed at a high level in squash, and enjoys playing golf when time allows.

TomJarvis

Tom Jarvis

Adviser Success

Tom brings over 15 years of experience in the UK financial services sector, with a strong focus on adviser relationships and strategic partnerships. Prior to joining Binary Capital, he spent a decade at Morningstar, working within the sales team to support financial advisers across managed portfolios, research software, and multi-asset solutions.

At Binary Capital, Tom operates in an Adviser Success role, supporting clients through the onboarding process, managing implementation, and working closely with the Head of Sales and Client Service Director to ensure a high-quality client experience across the outsourced MPS and Partnership Portfolio propositions.

Tom holds a BA in Business Management from the University of Sheffield and is currently studying towards his CISI qualifications.

 

Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife in Ireland and follows Woking FC, Surrey County Cricket Club, and London Irish. He is also actively involved in his local community, volunteering at golf events in support of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice across Surrey and Berkshire.

Toby Sinclair

Business Development Associate 

Toby is a Business Development Associate at Binary Capital, with seven years’ experience in the UK financial services industry. Prior to joining Binary Capital, he spent almost seven years at AJ Bell, progressing through a range of roles that gave him strong operational and adviser-facing experience.

At Binary Capital, Toby focuses on building and managing relationships with IFA firms, supporting adviser onboarding, and helping articulate the Binary Capital story. He works closely with the sales and client service teams to support the firm’s distribution and Partnership Portfolio propositions.

Outside of work, Toby is passionate about sport. He is a keen golfer, enjoys racket sports, and is a dedicated Manchester City supporter.
